- Used increased tax revenues from high oil prices to give Alaskans a rebate.
- Slashed government spending.
- Took on the biggest industry in Alaska, the oil companies, to work out an equitable deal on building a new gas pipeline.”

- Only worked as a practicing lawyer for 1 year out of school before going into a local government position (1970) in Wilmington DE, i.e., only worked 1 year at a real job for a paycheck, went to Senate at age 30 (1972).
- Avoided draft (and thereby service to country) by obtaining 6 draft deferments until receiving a permanent deferment for asthmatic condition.
- No executive/decision making experience. Just riding the federal government payroll gravy train for his whole life.
- Has voted against military spending and spending to have a strong national defense.
